The wait for new information on Destiny 2 is nearly over, now that we’re just a little over a week away from E3 2017, and Bungie is giving fans another chance to see the Zavala story trailer that debuted during the Destiny 2 gameplay reveal. But anyone planning to kill time by playing Destiny this summer might be disappointed to learn Bungie has turned its attention elsewhere.
Over the weekend, Activision and Bungie published “Zavala’s Prelude”, a two minute-and-53-second trailer that shows the commander’s path from newly-christened Guardian to one of the humanity’s most-respected protectors. We get a firsthand look at how the Traveler changed mankind’s fortunes, giving those who’d survived the Collapse a chance to build the last city on Earth. The video also shows the long and arduous process of unification that Zavala undertook, traveling to disparate human colonies and bringing them together under the Traveler’s protective shield. It’s a great way to highlight the struggle humanity undertook in the years before the first Destiny and a nice reminder of how dire things are when the Tower falls in Destiny 2. It’s also an effective means of keeping fans energized until new information is released later this month.
Unfortunately, the only new information to eek out of Bungie in the last seven days is bad news for those still trying to squeeze a few more hours of entertainment out of Destiny. According to Bungie, the Destiny development team has turned its complete attention to the upcoming sequel. Should any major issues arise, like a server outage or game-killing bug, the studio would almost certainly address them. But the Destiny community shouldn’t expect to see anymore balance updates for the shared-world shooter. As far as the studio is concerned, the Age of Triumph rollout was the end of the line for Destiny. Which means ongoing sources of concern, like distribution of special ammo in the Crucible, will remain unaddressed for the foreseeable future.
Maybe forever.
Here’s how Bungie explained it in the latest Weekly Update:
Age of Triumph was touted as the last update to Destiny. In our constant watch over the community, we’ve heard many of you asking if the current sandbox will get another design pass. Our sole focus at this time is Destiny 2.
All hands at Bungie are committed to making Destiny 2 the sequel that this community deserves. We have a Beta this summer that will demand your bug reports. This fall will begin an entirely new cycle of updates for a brand new game that we think will be the best answer to the feedback you’ve given us since the original launch of Destiny.

Destiny 2 is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game hits consoles on Sept. 8; however, there’s currently no timeline for the PC debut of Destiny 2.
