At PAX West, we got to see a demo of Destiny 2’s upcoming expansion Shadowkeep, which meant a first look at new gameplay elements, some fancy new Exotics, and more. However, there was one new feature that we’re definitely glad to see: a new Season Pass system.
The Destiny 2 Season Pass will probably work just like any season pass - players will receive a steady stream of rewards for completing challenges and progressing through the season pass. Destiny 2 will offer both a free and premium reward track for the Season Pass, but the good news doesn’t stop there. According to Destiny 2 game director Luke Smith, Season Pass progress will be saved across platforms, so that your progression and rewards tracks will follow your guardians wherever you decide to play.
The announcement was made by Smith on Twitter, where he wrote: “Your Season Pass and its progression will travel with your Cross Saved Guardian. Meaning: set up Cross Save and when you own the Season Pass (if that’s what you’re into) play it anywhere your Guardian is.”
From what we’ve seen of the Season Pass so far, players will be able to earn all kinds of in-game rewards. These rewards include crafting materials, weapons, armor sets, and even engrams at key milestones.
Since the split between Bungie and Activision, cross-play is becoming more and more of a possibility, although there’s still a few barriers here and there. Cross-save is an excellent new feature in Destiny 2, but it’s also not without its hiccups. Particularly for PC players, using cross-save to make the move to consoles should be relatively straightforward, but any expansion content will require players to purchase the console editions of their respective expansions before they can play the content on consoles.
