The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) board has given Destroy All Humans 2 an M rating. The game was rated M by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) in September, but why is a game that’s over a decade old getting rated again? If I had to put my detective hat on, I’d say that DAH 2 is getting an HD PS2 to PS4 re-release sometime in the near future. The game’s publisher, THQ, hasn’t said anything about it, so an announcement should be on it’s way in the coming months.
Destroy All Humans 2 holds a special place in my life as a gamer. When the wacky alien shooter was first released, I was too young to play it and my mother was smart enough to know that a kid still in middle school shouldn’t be playing a game where you fry hundreds of innocent humans with a ray gun. This was before YouTube, I couldn’t just google a Pewdiepie “Let’s Play” to get my alien fix. Instead, I recorded episodes of X-Play on a VHS player and watched their DAH segments ad infinitum.
The over-the-top explosions, the feeling of immense power and the lovable grey aliens all captivated my pre-pubescent imagination. In a life dictated by schoolwork and my mother’s plans for my future, it was nice to just escape into Adam Sessler’s voice and an incineration gun.
