Blizzard's "Diablo IV" just recently received its Vessel of Hatred, which adds a ton of new content to the game, including a new class. However, another notable change is the return of a mechanic previously seen in "Diablo II," Runewords.
Runewords are combinations of Runes that are socketed onto equipment pieces, such as armor and weapons. Each Rune provides various effects that make your character stronger, more durable, and many others.
In "Diablo II," if you socket specific Runes in the right order in equipment that has the right number of sockets, you can build what is called Runewords.
These not only provide the base effects of all the Runes that were used but also give bonus effects that are significantly stronger.
However, "Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred" changes how Runewords are built and how they work and now require two different kinds of Runes, a Rune of Ritual and a Rune of Invocation.
Later on, we also talk about four of the best Runewords available now and how you can get them.
How do Runewords Work in Diablo IV?
The new system now only requires you to socket two Runes onto a piece of equipment to activate the Runeword. Additionally, players will only be able to equip up to two Runewords at any given time, so you need to be careful which ones you use, according to PCGamesN.
A Rune of Ritual will give you Offering for doing a specified action and a Rune of Invocation uses up Offering in order to provide you with various buffs. If your gain from the former exceeds the requirement of the latter, you gain bonus effects.
One example is using the Yul Rune together with the Gar Rune. The former provides 50 Offering when casting a skill with a cooldown.
The latter requires 25 Offering and provides a 2.5% increase in Critical Strike Chance. This means that you will get a total of 5% increased Critical Strike Chance when casting a skill with a cooldown.
Best Runewords
1. Tam Rune
This particular Rune of Ritual provides 25 Offering whenever your character casts a non-Channeled Core Skill. This is particularly useful as the requirement is relatively easy to accomplish for most classes, Sportskeeda said.
2. Xol Rune
Next up is the Xol Rune, which grants a whopping 150 Offering when you evoke power from another class. This lets you utilize the benefits and effects of skills that your current class otherwise would not have access to.
3. Lac Rune
The Lac Ruen is a Rune of Ritual that uses up 800 Offering to evoke the Barbarian's Challenging Shout. This ability reduces the damage that you take from enemy attacks. If you exceed the required Offering, then the duration of the skill will increase.
4. Ohm Rune
Last but not least is the Ohm Rune, which requires 600 Offering in order to evoke the Barbarian's War Cry ability.
This increases your movement speed and increases the damage you deal to enemies. Exceeding the Offering requirement increases the duration of the buff, according to IGN.
