After Spider-Man: Remastered and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Codemasters has also confirmed that Dirt 5 will not support cross-save between the PS4 and PS5.
Replying to a comment on Twitter, Codemasters stated, "Currently on Xbox, all progress can be carried over between generations. On PlayStation, your Playgrounds creations can be carried over, but other game progress (Career, currency, saved liveries) cannot. If that changes, we'll let you know!"
Just like with Spider-Man: Remastered and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, there is no explanation as to why this is the case, despite the game being a free upgrade on the PS5. This means that although players won't have to buy a separate PS5 copy of the game, they'll still need to start the game from scratch.
A few days ago, Insomniac confirmed that despite Spider-Man: Remastered not supporting cross-save, Miles Morales, on the other hand, will support save transfer. And now Codemasters has stated that only a certain aspect of the progress will be carried over to the PS5. It seems that only Sony can explain what's keeping certain game saves from being carried over to the PS5.
Meanwhile, Microsoft also took a jab at Sony by sharing a tweet that highlights the Xbox Series X's capability of being backwards compatible with up to four generations of Xbox and the ability to carry over progress regardless of the game.
Dirt 5 does support cross-play between PS4 and PS5, and between Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. However, there's no cross-play support between Xbox and PlayStation.
The PS5's cross-save inability is quickly becoming a trend. Fans will likely want to know what other games won't support cross-save on the PS5.
Dirt 5 is launching on October 16 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game is also being developed for the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. However, there is no concrete date as to when the next-gen version will become available.
