The next Nintendo Direct will focus mainly on Splatoon 2 and Arms, both for the Nintendo Switch, but that doesn't mean there won’t be other announcements and possible reveals. But fans should not expect news regarding a Super Smash Bros. port or any new Pokémon game.

While the possibility of either or both getting some sort of reveal or update during the April 12 Nintendo Direct is there, it just isn’t very likely.

First off, Nintendo Directs aren’t as long as you might think. The last Direct focused on the Fire Emblem series and that only went 20 minutes. The 3DS-focused direct only lasted 33 minutes. If this new Nintendo Direct will focus on two games, then you should expect both titles to take up most of that time.

While Nintendo has confirmed that other Switch and 3DS games will be touched on during the April 12 event, there are just too many titles coming soon on both platforms to talk about something coming far later in the year.

For the Nintendo Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is coming on April 28, while plenty of other Nindie and third-party titles are releasing soon. The Nintendo 3DS has a lot less on its plate but the release of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is just around the corner.

Any announced game will more than likely release later in the year, so Nintendo needs to save those big announcements for this year’s E3. If there is a Super Smash Bros. port coming to the Switch or a new Pokémon game in the works, they will likely wait until June to reveal that information. Not to mention that both franchises have received their own Nintendo Directs in the past.

But, hey, half the fun with these Nintendo Directs is to speculate and predict what will be shown. Let us know what you expect from the April 12 Nintendo Direct in the comments section below.
