A re-release of Doom 64 will soon make its way to the Nintendo Switch, as announced by publisher Bethesda Softworks and developer id Software during the September 4 Nintendo Direct press conference stream. Released originally in 1997, Doom 64 will get its revival come November 22, 2019.
Doom 64 follows the events of the original Doom Trilogy (Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom) and Doomguy’s neverending battle to save Earth from the creatures of Hell. In this fourth installment of the Doom series, players will be crusading to hunt down the Mother of Demons and stop Hell’s invasion. The game will take you through more than 30 action-packed levels. As always, keep your eyes sharp for the introduction of new and enhanced weapons and secrets that will once and for all help you stamp out the demonic threat.
So what’s new with Doom 64? First on the list is the game’s obvious visual upgrade with higher resolution and widescreen graphics, seeing that the Nintendo Switch is a considerably huge technological jump from the N64. Aside from that, Bethesda and id Software are still mum on whether there are other things we should expect for the Doom II sequel. Regarding other things their lips are zipped on, the developer and publisher have also not confirmed whether Doom 64 will release for other platforms aside from the Switch. However, it should be noted that the game was rated a few weeks ago after QuakeCon for both a PC and Switch version, and it would make sense that an announcement for the former is already on the horizon.
Doom 64 is just one of the many announcements made by Bethesda and id Software to mark the iconic and original Doom’s 25th anniversary. Most of these announcements consist of news regarding the re-release of Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom on multiple platforms, and the launch of the first two games on iOS and Android. That said, these are just teasers and ways to pass the time for the eventual release of Doom Eternal on November 22, 2019 for the PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
