The latest update for Dota 2 arrived Tuesday afternoon, bringing a variety of changes to Valve’s ultra-popular MOBA on the heels of this year’s International. But we’re not sure there’s anything fans were looking forward to more than this week’s introduction of Underlord, the final member of the original Defense of the Ancients roster to make the jump to Dota 2.
Five years after the first version of Dota 2 was released to the community, IceFrog and the rest of the team responsible for Valve’s first foray into the world of MOBAs have finally closed the loop. Pit Lord is making his (it’s?) in-game debut this week, albeit with a slight name change, and the newly-crowned Underlord has easily be one of the most anticipated additions to the roster in years. Sure, fans are curious about Valve’s first original hero, Monkey King, but longtime fans know there won’t be any shortage of Underlord picking in both ranked and unranked matchmaking for at least the next few weeks.
The Dark Rift Update didn’t just expand the Dota 2 roster, either. This week’s patch delivered a variety of new stat systems for the popular MOBA, including new post-game summaries that offer the same kinds of breakdowns we’re accustomed to seeing during and after tournament matches. In addition to offering a better statistical breakdown of each match’s progression, Dota 2 players can now also access more detailed win-loss statistics for the game’s they’ve played with each person on their friends list. We’re sure this won’t lead to any awkward conversations, as people try to avoid playing with less-skilled friends, in the near future.
