The second day of playoffs is usually an exciting time in a typical Dota 2 major. That’s because this is when we see the next set of teams eliminated. The Stockholm Major didn’t disappoint as Team Spirit and Team Liquid are out of the tourney.
Beware the Beast
In the matchup between Team Spirit and beastcoast, a lot of people expected to see a 2-0 win in favor of Spirit. Not that surprising considering beastcoast was against the defending TI champions. That didn't faze beastcoast as they went on and picked Bloodseeker for Héctor Antonio "K1" Rodríguez. That might have been a good choice as K1 managed to get 18 kills. In addition, Spirit likely didn't expect Elvis "Scofield" De la Cruz Peña to be an excellent support using Tiny.
With their backs against the wall, Spirit had no choice but to ban Bloodseeker. This led to beastcoast picking Troll Warlord for K1. It wasn't just this pick that gave beastcoast the win but it was the rather unconventional build of Troll Warlord having both Aghanim's Scepter and Aghanim's Shard.
In a post-game interview, Team Spirit's Miroslaw "Mira" Kolpakov revealed that they had a lot on their minds and didn't even expect to play in the Stockholm Major. However, he admitted that the reason they lost was that they "just played super bad." That right there is one of the reasons why this team is the defending TI champion. Even with the loss, Team Spirit remains in the top 12 of this season's DPC Ranking.
Liquid Gets the Boom
Meanwhile, Team Liquid had a good start in their first game against BetBoom Team. Liquid dominated their opponents and ended the game in under 30 minutes. Not wanting to be swept like Spirit, BetBoom came up with a new game plan that won them the second game.
In the third game, both teams switched things up and had a slow start. Slowly but surely BetBoom managed to get the upper hand and never looked back to grab the win and claim the match.
