The 2014 PC roguelike dungeon defense game Dungeon of the Endless will be making its way to the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch soon, as announced by publisher Playdigious.
Developed by Amplitude Studios, Dungeon of the Endless tells the story of a few hundred condemned criminals that were being shipped to the Auriga system on board the prison hulk “Success”. All these prisoners knew about the Auriga Prime was what the probes told them: that it had water, temperate zones, plant life, and plenty of metals in the crust. In fact, the planet Auriga once hosted a major settlement of the galaxy-traveling precursors known as the Endless. The plot is moved forward when the prisoners crash landed through some sort of Endless facility, which led them all the way down to a ancient basement deep in the ground.
Dungeon of the Endless’ gameplay works like a tower defense and roguelike game, which includes procedurally generated levels. The players’ goal is to navigate the deep and ancient dungeon to escape from the planet. At your disposal is a mix of ship crew, prisoners, and civilians. It is up to players to customize their teams, as each character has different stats such as health, attack, defense, power, movement speed, and other unique skills and abilities. It also works as a turn-based game where players need to manage three resources: Industry, Science, and Food. These help your group survive, build defenses to hold off monsters, and sustain your needs.
Currently holding a Very Positive rating on Steam, Dungeon of the Endless has received praise for its gameplay mechanics, level design and graphics, with most of the criticism pointed towards its short gameplay and low replayability value. However, it's priced rather competitively, and I personally think that it's well worth the price of admission.
An optimized version of Dungeon of the Endless for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 will be coming soon. A released date should be announced in the following months by publisher Playdigious. Aside from Dungeon of the Endless, Playdigious has also announced the contemporary indie game The Almost Gone, developed by Whitethorn Digital.
