'Elden Ring: Nightreign' Network Test Hit by Connection Issues—FromSoftware Apologizes

Players expect a potential extension on the table.

"Souls" game developer FromSoftware has formally apologized for the continued connectivity issues plaguing the "Elden Ring Nightreign" network test. The servers for the game have been clogged, making it hard for gamers to join and play through the much-awaited expansion.

Server Congestion Disrupts Matchmaking

The news came from FromSoftware's Japanese player-support Twitter account which stated that server overloads are blocking players from connecting.

PlayStation players appear to be worst affected, leading to an official comment on behalf of the Elden Ring Twitter account:

"Nightfarers, the Nightreign PlayStation servers are being serviced. Server restoration work is being done. More information will follow. Thank you for your understanding and patience."

Limited Test Windows Make Downtime Even More Frustrating

According to IGN, the "Nightreign" network test for "Elden Ring" occurs in five consecutive sessions between Feb. 14 and 16, each session being only three hours long. With the time constraint, these server problems substantially reduce the already limited time players have to get to try the test.

'Elden Ring Nightreign:' What to Expect

Despite the technical issues, "Elden Ring Nightreign" is among the most awaited titles for 2025. The expansion will be released on May 30 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Here's the pre-order guide provided by The Gamer.

One of the largest reveals around the DLC is that it won't have any microtransactions—a move that was well-received by the community. Rather, it will be a one-off purchase expansion, where players receive a complete experience without any extra costs.

Will FromSoftware Prolong the Network Test?

This is similar to the "Monster Hunter Wilds" beta test, which also experienced some network problems this past weekend. That instance was caused by a 24-hour PlayStation Network outage, though. To make up for it, Capcom extended the test, giving gamers more time.

With the dramatic server issues involved, FromSoftware is said to be approaching a similar solution-possibly providing additional testing intervals to make up for lost ground.

As for the possible development of "Elden Ring 2," game director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed that it's currently not included in the ongoing projects.

The announcement was confirmed by Miyazaki during the PlayStation Partner Awards. As for those who were curious why there's no sequel or new installment, FromSoftware might have a lot of games to develop on their end.

However, Miyazaki said that the "Elden Ring" brand could still work its way in future releases, hinting that sequels could come out in the coming years or so.
