‘Elder Scrolls’ Movie Not Happening Unless Peter Jackson Wants To Make It, Which He Probably Doesn’t (Sorry Todd Howard)

Bethesda’s Todd Howard doesn’t want to turn the Elder Scrolls franchise into a movie, unless director Peter Jackson signs on to the project.

Pete Hines, marketing executive for Bethesda, recently spoke to Finder.com.au about the likelyhood of the gaming studio turning its most popular franchise into movie. Hines explained if Jackson, known best for his work on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, is the only person capable of persuading Howard to turning his franchise into a live-action adaptation.

“I think if Peter Jackson turned up at [Bethesda game director Todd Howard]’s office and said, ‘I want to do Elder Scrolls ,’ well that would be a pretty serious conversation you would have to listen to. But I think Peter is probably pretty busy. So I don’t see us anytime soon looking at movies,” Hines said.

We don’t blame Howard. There’ve been some pretty bad film adaptations of video games over the years, including the most recent Warcraft movie. Prince of Persia was also pretty terrible. Hitman was tolerable at best. Need for Speed starring Aaron Paul was a joke. Then there’s the Resident Evil movies, which, despite their popularity, are usually a hit or miss with critics.

In fact, there really hasn’t been a good video-game-turned-movie adaptation, ever. There’s an Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons that looks promising, but that doesn’t mean much.

Let’s be real, Ubisoft let the Prince of Persia movie happen, why should we have high expectations for the disaster that is the Assassin’s Creed franchise right now? Seriously, what’s going on with the Modern Day storyline in Assassin’s Creed ? What’s Juno’s big plan that she can’t shut up about? Why do we care so much?

But we digress. Would you see an Elder Scrolls movie? Hell, would you pay money to see Fassbender play an Assassin? Let us know in the comments below.
