One lucky member of the Elite Dangerous community made first contact with an unidentified alien ship today, ending months of speculation as to whether or not ED players are alone in the (digital) Milky Way. And any PC gamers reading this article from their multi-thousand dollar cockpit -- of which I am extremely jealous -- might want to take a deep breath and try to stay calm because the first Elite Dangerous player to encounter the Thargoids(?) plays on Xbox One.
Frontier has betrayed us (Yes, I’m joking).
Xbox Live user DP Sayre stunned the Elite Dangerous community with a series of short clips showing the first encounter between an ED player and the aliens we now know inhabit Elite Dangerous. Sayre seems to have spotted the ship while jumping between ARIES DARK REGION XU-O B6-3 and PLEIADES SECTOR OI-T C3-8. At first, fans weren't really sure how to respond to the discovery. Hoaxes are pretty common these days and it’s also pretty rare that we see game developers begin new events giving the community a heads-up. But it didn’t take long for Frontier to confirm the find, sending the Elite Dangerous community into an uproar. Now the community is scrambling to try and make contact again. Even if hostile ships are waiting the next time someone gets yanked out of witch space.
To see the encounter for yourself, take a minute to check out the video below or head over to /r/elitedangerous to see all three clips in their original format. Then head down to the comments section and let us know what you think of CMDR Sayre’s discovery.
Elite Dangerous is currently available on PC and Xbox One. The game is expected to hit PS4 sometime in Q2 2017.
