Something is going on with the Evolve website, hinting a major change is getting announced Thursday. Using the hashtag #StageUp, developer Turtle Rock will reveal what’s next for the online shooter in a live stream starting at 12 p.m. EDT on July 7.
Watch live video from TurtleRockStudios on www.twitch.tvAs for what major announcements are coming, we don’t really have any solid ideas. A popular theory on NeoGAF is that Evolve will be going free-to-play, allowing anyone to play the base game without having to purchase anything. This makes sense, given the over-abundance of DLC options there are for players to spend money on.
If this isn’t the free-to-play announcement many think it is, it could simply be more DLC. Giving themselves a bit of a buzz with a countdown timer could work in getting players who haven’t played Evolve in months some interest in coming back again.
Another interesting thought is Evolve could be debuting a new game mode. Thanks to the popularity of Overwatch, perhaps Evolve is going to make a more head-to-head mode, instead of the four versus one modes we have now. There is already a large roster of characters with established roles, tweaking things slightly to make them more multiplayer-friendly shouldn’t be too difficult.
All of this is pure speculation, however. We’ll all have to tune in to Turtle Rock’s Twitch stream tomorrow at noon to see what #StageUp is actually about.
