Did you send some Fallout Shelter dwellers into the Wasteland, only to discover they returned early with a chat message saying, “That’s as much as I can carry”? You aren’t alone. It appears the despised Wasteland explorer capacity limit has returned, but this time players aren’t sure if it was an intentional server-side update by Bethesda or just some kind of bug.
Either way, players of the post-apocalyptic sim game have found their explorers returning to the vault early without being recalled by the user. Some gathering less than five items returned to the vault with the explorer chat saying “That’s as much as I can carry.”
The explorer capacity limit problem seems to have cropped up sometime Thursday afternoon as reported by a player on Bethesda’s Fallout Shelter Discussion Forum.
“So I have four dwellers in the wasteland. The item cap per dweller was 100, or so I thought.
I check my game this afternoon and all four are already returning to the vault with a "maxed out" payload.
Dweller 1 - 43 items
Dweller 2 - 71 items
Dweller 3 - 72 items
Dweller 4 - 100 items
Am I missing something here? Why are dwellers 1, 2, and 3 returning to the vault already,” wrote Tilly708.
The post received numerous replies, with other players confirming they’d run into the same issues.
“I sent out my two main dwellers, both in power armor, both with all stats maxed. They showed back up with all 25 of their stimpaks and only 5 common items each. The log said they had reached their carry max, lol. I can usually leave these two out collecting for 3 days with no issues. Hoping this is a bug,” wrote Vesstrina.
On Reddit’s Fallout Shelter subreddit, users reported the same issue.
“All of my explorers are returning with around 20 items each. If that's some new limit, I can't imagine how anyone could find anything worthwhile in the wasteland,” wrote black_supper.
The number of items a dweller gets before the “That’s as much as I can carry,” message appears and they automatically returning to the vault seems to vary from as much as 25 to as little as four items regardless of the armor, weapons or amount of stimpacks they are carrying. The variance seems to indicate that this capacity limit is probably a glitch in the game that Bethesda will need to work out, but so far the company has yet to answer players’ queries on the discussion forum or other social media platforms. Deleting the app and reinstalling doesn’t appear to remedy the issue either.
If and/or when Bethesda offers a fix for the capacity limit bug we’ll be sure to update this post. If you happen to find a solution that fixes the issue, please do share in the comments below.
