Does the Fast family need a moment to catch their breath? According to its official Twitter, the new Fast and Furious 9 release date is April 10, 2020, almost a year off of the initial release on April 19, 2019.
So what can we expect from Fast and Furious 9. Well, nothing is confirmed, but several hints have been dropped here and there. Firstly, franchise star Vin Diesel announced that the Fast and Furious series will end with one final trilogy, which suggests F&F8 will serve as a launching pad for 9 and 10.
Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision... they have been like family... I promised the studio I would deliver one last Trilogy to end the saga.
So what elements from 8 will be carried over to 9? There's probably plenty – more than I'd like to remember, but there is one thing that has always bugged me. Yes, Deckard Shaw infiltrated Cipher's plane to save Dom's baby, but why was Dom so quick to hand an olive branch to the Shaw brothers after Han was killed? Han was killed out of revenge for the death of Deckard's little brother, Owen, but we learn he didn't die after all.
"Justice for Han," Fast and Furious writer Chris Morgan teased regarding the subjects that will be touched in the ninth installment. "I think you'll learn a lot more about it, and I don't know if that hashtag will be the appropriate one to put on it down the road. But I can tell you this: We will definitely be talking more about Han."
"That whole episode has not fully detailed exactly what happened," Jason Statham added. "I'm not going to say anything more than that! But [writer-producer Chris Morgan] likes to annoy the fans and please the fans and get all these angry protests. So, more to come."
The Fast and Furious writers will have plenty of time to iron out the details now that 9 has been delayed to April, 2020. We'll be sure to keep you posted as we expect to learn more in the months (years?) ahead.
