Publisher Bandai Namco and developer Slightly Mad Studios have just announced that their upcoming team-based, driving game Fast & Furious Crossroads will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on August 7. This announcement also comes with an almost three-minute gameplay showcase which unveils Fast & Furious Crossroads’ gameplay and more.
Based on the wildly successful (and growing more chaotic and convoluted than ever) movie franchise Fast & Furious, Fast & Furious Crossroads puts players in the shoes of the iconic characters that has made the Furious franchise what it is today. Players will be joining the family as they hunt down an international crime syndicate across the globe (with locations in Athens, Barcelona, and Morocco). In typical Fast & Furious fashion, players will have access to an array of iconic vehicles such as the Ford GT and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Fast & Furious game without the overwhelming number of weapons and modifications that players can put on their ride, such as a missile launcher and a roof-mounted crane.
Fast & Furious Crossroads campaign mode will expand upon the Fast & Furious universe and will include the voices of Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and Tyrese Gibson – all reprising their roles as Dominic Toretto, Letty Ortiz, and Roman Pearce, respectively.
However, reception to Fast & Furious Crossroads’ announcement has been lukewarm, at best. Its gameplay trailer on the official channel of the game is sitting at an almost 80% dislike ratio, with its comments section turned off. On its Twitter account (@FastFuriousCR), people have commented that the game’s graphics look very outdated, with its voice acting jobs sounding wooden and unnatural. This may be due to the fact that some of the actors are not seasoned voice actors. However, commenters do have a point that the game looks very outdated as it is. An online marketing director for Slightly Mad Studios responded to one such comment, saying “This is an Announcement Trailer. How can you comfortably assess whether this game takes advantage and interests the Fast Fans? This is just a teaser. We've still to show raw gameplay, multiplayer etc. I assure you, we've got it”.
