The sales numbers for Fire Emblem Fates’ first weekend are in and it has become the best-ever Stateside launch for the series. Fates also became the fastest-selling title in the series in the U.S. with more than 300,000 copies sold in its first three days.
Fates has outsold the launch of 2013’s Fire Emblem Awakening, the game that literally saved the franchise. Fire Emblem Fates sold five times more than Awakening , dethroning the previous record holder in the United States
“Both fans and critics are falling for Fire Emblem Fates , and the early sales numbers prove the game’s undeniable appeal,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, in a press release. “This strong momentum for Nintendo 3DS is only the beginning, as many more high-quality exclusive games are set to launch for the hand-held system over the next few months.”
It’s no surprise that Fire Emblem Fates sold this well, considering Awakening was a critical and financial darling in 2013 and the rave reviews both versions of the game have received, including from us.
Speaking of both versions, Nintendo revealed that Birthright outsold Conquest by a small margin. Word of Conquest being the tougher of the two may have deterred first-time and returning players from purchasing that version until they got the hang of playing the game.
We recommend playing both to experience the war between Hoshido and Nohr from both sides, and to really get the most out of the third version, Revelation , when it’s released in March.
