Like a mysterious hero who returns in times of great tragedy, Spike Chunsoft has confirmed the Fire Pro Wrestling franchise will return in 2017 via the debut trailer for Fire Pro Wrestling World, a new addition to the franchise that’s currently in development for PS4 and PC. And we couldn’t be more excited about the upcoming return of the beloved 2D wrestling series.
At this point, we don’t have many details on the next addition to the Fire Pro series. Spike Chunsoft says this will be the first game from the series to hit Steam and will debut via the Early Access program sometime in Q2 2017. Fortunately, a Fire Pro Wrestling World page has already been added to Valve’s digital marketplace, featuring a handful of additional bullet points about the project.
Spike Chunsoft says fans can expect “unlimited customization”, from wrestler appearances to title belts, and even the referees can be modified by Fire Pro players. Fire Pro Wrestling World will also include online matchmaking, the infamous Deathmatch -- in Barbed Wire, Landmine and Steel Cage variants -- and “a robust CPU logic system.” There’s no word on which organizations will/won’t be represented in the series latest outing. But the FPWW listing does promise access to “MMA rules,” an inclusion which likely means Pancrase will be represented again this year.
For an early look at Fire Pro Wrestling World, take some time to watch the announcement trailer at the top of the page. Then head down to the comments section and let us know if you’re going to pick up a copy of Fire Pro Wrestling World when it debuts later this year.
Fire Pro Wrestling World is in development for PlayStation 4 and PC. The game is slated to hit Steam Early Access sometime in Q2 2017; however, there’s no word on the PS4 release date.
