Bungie published new information on Destiny 2’s first Crimson Days celebration Wednesday morning. The return of Destiny’s widely-maligned Valentine’s Day event isn’t nearly as exciting as the May debut of the second D2 expansion, but will at least provide the community with some new goals during the ongoing wait for the next extension of Destiny’s narrative.

Most of this week’s Valentine’s Day festivities revolve around a new Crucible playlist, Crimson Doubles, which reduces team size from four Guardians to two. The new mode is round-based and features a proximity-based ability recharge boost that rewards players for sticking with their teammates. Bungie says opposing squads will also receive updates on your current location if you stray too far from your partner.

Crimson Days will introduce a new map, The Burnout, which lets players see what the Burning Shrine would look like in a future controlled by the Vex. There are also dozens of new rewards for Destiny 2 players to earn during the event. There are five new Exotics, including three firearms, along with more than half a dozen new legendary Ghost shells and a smaller selection of new Sparrow skins. Of course, there are also some new Crimson Days-themed Shaders to earn.

The return of Crimson Days wasn’t much of a surprise. Assets related to the event (including NPC scripts) were discovered by data miners in January and enough material was uncovered to draw a reply from Bungie. But this is the first time fans have seen the Valentine’s Day content coming to Destiny 2 in 2018. The studio won’t host any preview streams, as it frequently does before major updates, because Crimson Days begins next week. Players won’t have long to enjoy the first in-game holiday of 2018, though. Bungie says Crimson Days will end with the weekly reset, every Tuesday at 9 a.m. (PST), on Feb. 20.

Destiny 2 is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Crimson Days begins Feb. 13, 2018.
