The first trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters is here.
If you’ve seen Other Space, Spy or The Heat, Ghostbusters will instantly feel familiar. The trailer showcases both Feig’s accomplished pursuit of high concept tropes and the looseness he affords his actors. Spy was both a parody of a spy movie and an action spy movie, with plenty of space for Melissa McCarthy to goofball around. This first Ghostbusters trailer exemplifies both qualities. It looks like we’ll get loose, improvised conversations between Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, McCarthy and Leslie Jones, plus giant sequences of ghost Uncle Sam’s stomping around Midtown.
Oh, and Slimer.
‘Ghostbusters’ First Trailer
This first look at Ghostbusters is unlikely to change any minds about the divisive project. Though some parts look substantially different from the original, this new trailer also recreates (with more slime) the library ghost scene that opened the 1984 Ghostbusters. Will the new Ghostbusters have enough of its own personality to justify treading on some of the most hallowed ground in comedy history? We’ll know for sure when Ghostbusters arrives in theaters on July 15.
