Apple’s first original TV show is currently filming, according to an exclusive report from the Hollywood Reporter. Dr. Dre is the brain behind the new mini-series reportedly named Vital Signs, a semi-autobiographical drama where “ each episode focuses on a different emotion and how Dre’s character deals with it.”
Dr. Dre, rap mogul and co-founder of Beats, will star and executive produce Vital Signs, which will presumably debut via Apple Music to users with a subscription. It is, however, unclear whether iTunes and the Apple TV will take on the original programming as well.
The Hollywood Reporter’s sources describe the series as a dark drama with a lot of violence and sex. On the set this week, the sources spotted an extended orgy scene where “naked extras simulated sex in a mansion in the Bird Streets neighborhood of Los Angeles’ Hollywood Hills.” Dr. Dre’s wife, Nicole Young, was reportedly on set watching.
Paul Hunter (known for directing music videos for famed artists like Michael Jackson, D’Angelo, Snoop Dogg , & Aaliyah ) will produce the series with Aaron Ginsburg ( The 100 ) and William Green (Ali G Indahouse). Dr. Dre hand-chose Robert Munich (Empire) to write all six 30-minute episodes. Sam Rockwell (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) and Mo McCrae (Sons of Anarchy, Murder in the First) will star alongside Dr. Dre in the first season.
Apple Music and Dr. Dre declined to comment on the Hollywood Reporter’s findings. All six episodes of Vital Signs will reportedly launch at the same time, though no release date has been confirmed.
