The CW’s 2016-2017 lineup is stacked. Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends are taking over Monday-Thursday primetime. Supergirl will take the Monday night slot and CW chief Mark Pedowitz can’t hold back his excitement. He told press ahead of the network’s upfront presentation in New York to expect a 4-way crossover with The Flash, Arrow, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl next season.
“Just imagine what our superhero crossover episode is going to look like come December,” Pedowitz said.
Crossovers have been a tradition ever since Arrow Season 2, when Oliver Queen met Barry Allen for the first time. Arrow and The Flash joined forces again more recently for a two-part crossover event, which set up for the spinoff DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. While The Flash and Arrow’s storylines acknowledge each other’s existence, for the most part, Oliver stays in Star City and Barry in Central City. Legends, on the other hand, was built by characters originating from Arrow and Flash, so there are constantly nods to its parent shows. Even though Supergirl spent its freshman season on CBS, that didn’t stop The Flash from helping her out in Central City for “World’s Finest” in March. However, it’s still unclear at this point how Kara Danvers will carve her spot in the Arrow-verse considering even after the huge cross-network party, Barry Allen never mentioned her on The Flash.
The CW has an incredible amount of already-introduced characters at their disposal and the library keeps growing, particularly heading into Legends Season 2. It’s a given that Pedowitz describes the next mid-season crossover as the “Biggest one ever.” A 4-way, 4-part crossover would be the best case scenario, and makes the most sense. That way, each main character can take the spotlight on their respective night.
