Two scenes in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice gave us our first look at Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen. Grant Gustin will continue to portray the Scarlet Speedster on the CW’s Flash series, which was renewed for Season 3. The Flash will team up with his fellow DC comrades when Justice League Part 1 arrives on the big screen on Nov. 17, 2017. We’ll have to wait until March 16, 2018 for Barry Allen’s solo movie debut.
This casting leak comes from Heroic Hollywood, who copped a breakdown reportedly sent to talent agencies. Insider Umberto Gonzalez warns these supporting roles aren’t confirmed. Sometimes breakdowns are posted to search for a specific type, instead of the actual role being advertised.
- Iris West is described in the breakdown as having Christiane Amanpour’s brains and Carrie Bradshaw’s style. An overcaffeinated doe. A reporter at The Central City Citizen. Actresses are currently testing for this part.
- Eobard Thawne is described in the breakdown as Central City’s Bill Gates. The smartest man in the room and he suffers from advanced degenerative disease like Stephen Hawking. Thawne is confined to a chair.
- Fred Chyre is described in the breakdown as a gruff detective who first meets Barry at the scene of a crime. Now they’re colleagues and the closest thing Barry has to a friend. Chryre is investigating the unusual death of someone at Thawne Laboratories.
- Len Snart is described in the breakdown as being ex-military and turns out to be working for Thawne. I have a feeling he is the muscle the way Anatoli Knyazev (aka the KGBEAST) was the muscle for Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
- Jay Garrick is described in the breakdown as being a former Central University professor who was fired for fringe science and was working on the speed force program. Supposedly his role is just a cameo.
Three out of five of these characters are integral to the storyline on the CW’s Flash series, but all roles have made cameos. The overarching question heading into pre-production is how the film can build a foundation of its own without intruding upon what the CW has already established.
Iris West plays Barry’s adopted sister/love interest in the TV series. Leonard Snart (aka Captain Cold) appears on The Flash series as a villain with a good heart, but is now part of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, an Arrow/Flash spinoff. Eobard Thawn (aka The Reverse-Flash) was Grant Gustin’s main baddie in Season 1, and very well could be Ezra Miller’s problem now. Fred Chyre played a minor role as Joe West’s partner early on in Season 1. Grant Gustin’s Flash is currently working to defeat Jay Garrick (who takes on Hunter Zolomon/ Zoom’s identity in the series).
With all of these similarities to the TV show, how do you think The Flash movie can standalone? Let us know in the comments below.
