The Flash isn’t expected to make his solo big screen debut until 2018, but his appearance in Batman V Superman has jump started the rumor mill. The most recent hint comes from Dawn of Justice producer Deborah Snyder.
When speaking with Forbes about DC Comics film lineup, Snyder implied Cyborg will co-star. “When we get to The Flash movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher — who plays Cyborg — are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice camaraderie with each other,” Snyder said.
She also added that Flash’s humor will make his movie stand out. “Ezra is super funny, so the tone of that film will be very different than the rest of them.”
Critics slammed Batman V Superman for being a bit too dark, and rumor has it Suicide Squad has the same issue. However, the production team is reportedly working to fix it before the film hits theaters August. BMD revealed Suicide Squad is undergoing a few reshoots to add lighter material so the movie’s tone will match the humorous banter we witnessed in the first trailer.
Snyder also spoke about Warner Bros. "director-driven" approach, and how it’s "really important to get really good talent involved in these films." Seth Grahame-Smith ( Dark Shadows , Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter ) will be directing The Flash . Smith also helped polish the Fantastic Four script and he is writing The Lego Batman Movie due in 2017. Aside from his experience adapting books to films, we don’t know too much about Smith or his plans for Barry Allen. It’s unclear what direction The Flash movie is going to take since Barry Allen’s origin story has already been exposed on CW’s version of The Flash played by Grant Gustin.
"It’s all about the director’s point of view and what they can bring to it, so they feel unique and different, and the stories can be unique to the characters,” Snyder said.
The Flash is scheduled to hit theaters March 6, 2018. Cyborg will get his own movie in 2020, after Justice League Part 1 in 2017, and Justice League Part 2 in 2019.
