The Flash Season 2 finale has left us with way more questions than answers. Everything is up in the air, or should I say somewhere in the multiverse, and we have absolutely no clue what to expect in the first episode of Season 3. To find out, DC All Access caught up with Carlos Valdes (Vibe) and he warned it’ll throw you for a loop.
“Season 3 will start in an unexpected place. Nothing will be the same,” Valdes said. “Different iterations of characters in situations and relationships that are familiar to viewers. It’s sort of like waking up in wonderland.”
This is interesting because Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold just died on Legends of Tomorrow, yet is still part of CW’s arsenal for next year. In the Flashpoint Paradox arc, Captain Cold is Citizen Cold, Central City’s main hero.
Between doppelgangers, Earths, and alternate universes, the creative team is going to have quite a time putting the story back together. While Grant Gustin (Barry Allen) may not know how they plan to do so, he did say that more speedsters are inevitable next season.
Two speedsters were showcased in the Season 2 finale. The real Jay Garrick, a second Flash, is a given for Season 3. But we also may have been introduced to the Black Flash . Jesse Quick was also teased heavily this season, and Jesse L Martin (Joe West) acknowledged Wally’s impending transformation into Kid Flash.
“Obviously Wally is going in a direction,” Martin said.
Going into Season 3, The Flash is his own worst enemy. After defeating Zoom and saving the multiverse, Barry traveled back in time to save his mother from the Reverse Flash, the main villain in Season 1. If the Flashpoint follows through in Season 3, Barry has really screwed up the timeline. Although, Zoom may not be out of the picture. Barry has undone everything that happened in Season 2 and it’s unclear if Zoom is actually dead because his transfiguration looked all too similar to the Black Flash . But Gustin suggested next season’s adversary will be different.
“I’ve heard whispers we may have a big bad that’s isn’t a metahuman,” Gustin revealed.
Director Andrew Kreisberg has already confirmed Season 3 will delve deeper into Caitlin Snow’s past , but that was before Barry decided it’d be a good idea to screw with the timeline. We still don’t know if Flashpoint is going to affect the entire DCEU, but that would be a hell of a good way to connect all the CW shows.
Come fall, a DC show will air four out of five nights a week since Supergirl took the Monday slot, adding to CW’s already stacked lineup of The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. Network Chief CW Mark Pedowitz already confirmed a 4-way crossover in December, but Gustin is under the impression there’s more planned.
“I bet next year there’s more crossovers than we’ve ever had, would be my guess.”
