Candice Patton and Carlos Valdes were the only current members of The Flash cast present at the 'crossover' panel at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in New Jersey. Brandon Routh and Caity Lotz from Legends of Tomorrow attended as well, but the best question was about how Cisco feels about Iris’ new leadership on The Flash.
“We cover a lot of that in the very first episode of Season 4,” Valdes said. “Iris and Cisco actually butt heads a little bit. So yeah, that was very interesting because there’s never been any sort of animosity or antagonistic energy between these two characters. For the first time we were able to explore what happens when we have differences in conscience.”
Patton continued, but in her response, mentions specifically that Iris and Cisco have different ideas about “whether to bring Barry out of the speed force.” That’s an interesting choice of words that could suggest Barry won’t simply reappear in Central City or find a way back on his own. Team Flash could be the people who break him free after 6 months of punishment.
“Iris takes on this leadership role at STAR Labs because Barry is gone, and Iris and Cisco have very different ideas about whether to bring Barry out of the speed force and they kind of butt heads on what the right decision to make is. Iris, being the new leader, thinks her way is the right way and Cisco, having been at STAR Labs since its conception, has his thoughts on the subject.”
The next question is, why is Cisco or Iris not interested in saving Barry? Patton even said in the panel that if she could save one person on the series from dying, it’d be Barry (while Valdes said Felicity). How do you think Barry will return to Central City?
