Earlier this month, Turn 10 Community Manager Brian Ekberg shared a hint about the upcoming Forza Motorsport 6 car pack: I’d love to spill the beans on each of the cars in the pack, but I enjoy my job, so I won’t do that. Instead I’ll say this: Prepare to drive something you’ve never driven before in a Forza game. Ooohhh, the mystery! July 12. Get hyped." Well, the July car pack finally arrived and it undoubtedly features some of the strangest cars to join the series yet.
In our last story, we shared details from GTPlanet that hinted to the sort of cars this latest car pack could deliver. According to a Smoking Tire podcast with Turn 10 Creative Director Dan Greenawalt, the team had been working on a physics engine suited to vehicles with a shorter wheelbase, such as three-wheeled cars. Smoking Tire host Matt Farah tried to get Greenawalt to give us a little more information by asking whether the Morgan Three-Wheeler roadster would join the game. However, Greenawalt remained coy during the interview.
Flash forward to Monday, July 12, Turn 10 finally announced the cars that will be a part of the latest Forza 6 July car pack. The speculations were right about a three-wheeled vehicle! But it's not a Morgan... we're getting a 1957 BMW Isetta 300 Export. For the Family Matters fans out there, yes, it's Steve Urkel's bubble car!
The other cars that Forza is also bringing in the latest DLC include the 2014 Jaguar #14 Emil Frey GT3 Jaguar XK, 2014 Chevrolet #4 ROAL Motorsport RML Cruze TC1 WTCC, 1980 Fiat 124 Sport Spider, 2015 McLaren 570S Coupé, 1969 Ford Brawner Hawk III and 2015 Mercedes-Benz #24 Tankpool24 Racing Truck. Umm... we didn't expect that last one either.
The racing truck is a 1000hp+ bohemoth that is unlike anything we've seen in Forza, but usually an alien driving experience makes for great, great fun. The rest of the new vehicles in the July car pack will definitely feel much more familiar than the gigantic Mercedes-Benz European Racing Truck and the itty bitty BMW Isetta.
The 2014 Jaguar #14 Emil Frey GT3 Jaguar XK adds to Forza's generous offering of GT3 racers. Meanwhile, the 2014 Chevrolet #4 ROAL Motorsport RML Cruze TC1 joins the Honda Civic in WTCC battle. The final race car in the car pack is the 1969 Ford Brawner Hawk III indycar, which the legendary Mario Andretti took to victory at the Indianapolis 500 in 1969.
Compared to the Isetta, the 1980 Fiat 124 Sport Spider is a classic that is as fun to drive today as it was new. To date, the roadster recipe is relatively unchanged. This year, Fiat revived the 124 Spider with its new roadster built upon the new Mazda MX-5 architecture.
Finally, the last car is the 2015 McLaren 570S Coupe. It's a nice car, but there's very little more to say than that!
The Forza 6 car pack is available today at the XBL Marketplace at the price of $7.
