The movie series may be dead (and waiting for that fateful lightning strike), but the real Friday the 13th dream team has coalesced around the upcoming Friday the 13th: The Game. Not only is Jason played by a motion-captured Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Jason X), but the kills were designed by Tom Savini, the godfather of gore (stealing the title from Herschell Gordon Lewis) responsible for the depraved shit in Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Monkey Shines, Friday the 13th, Maniac, The Burning and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. And now he’s designed a new Jason for a new era of slaughter.

Friday the 13th: The Game had a big presence at PAX East this year, including the debut of this brutal new trailer:

But the bigger deal for the Friday the 13th fanbase (whose encyclopedic knowledge of the 12 movies can be very frightening) has to be the premiere of a new Jason created by Tom Savini. Joining the Jason Voorhees from Parts 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9, the new Jason is meant to depict the killer after the events of Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, which ended on Jason Voorhees dragged into the Earth by demons (Freddy Krueger among them).

It seems hell has only made him tougher to kill:

The multiplayer components for Friday the 13th: The Game should have a release date soon, with a full release, single-player included, following this summer. But you’ll need to pre-order to get Tom Savini’s new Jason design.
