In a tribute to fellow Galaxy Quest cast member Alan Rickman, Tim Allen revealed that “ Galaxy Quest is close to being resurrected in a very creative way.”

Writing for The Hollywood Reporter , Tim Allen spoke movingly of his working relationship with Alan Rickman (if a little self-servingly: many of his anecdotes are about Alan Rickman apologizing to him). But the bit of Galaxy Quest news came right at the end, with Tim Allen lamenting that Rickman wouldn’t be a part of the enigmatic Galaxy Quest project.

While a Galaxy Quest sequel is an exciting proposition, it's hard to imagine the future of Galaxy Quest without Alan Rickman.

While a sequel to Galaxy Quest would be the most obvious future scenario, Allen’s claim of a “creative way” of bringing back the series might suggest a video game or TV series instead.

Though Galaxy Quest is first and foremost a parody of Star Trek , it was so enthusiastically embraced by sci-fi fans that it was voted the seventh best Star Trek movie at the Creation Star Trek convention in Las Vegas via Birth Movies Death . Galaxy Quest ranked above Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: Nemesis, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and Star Trek Generations .

Tim Allen bemoaned Alan Rickman’s inability to be a part of the new Galaxy Quest, suggesting that other cast members like Sigourney Weaver, Tomy Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Justin Long might return for the Galaxy Quest sequel, TV series, video game, freemium app, or… well, who knows.
