Bran is back in Winterfell, y’all. Well, at least Bran’s body is back in Winterfell. The dude sitting in the wheelchair looking all gloomy definitely isn’t the boy we grew to love. That boy died once he became the Three-Eyed Raven.
SPOILER WARNING! If you’re not caught up in Game of Thrones Season 7 episode 4 stop reading now.
Anyway, Bran is back and we see him share the screen with Littlefinger in Game of Thrones Season 7 episode 4. Littlefinger visits Bran in his chambers and presents him with a gift: a dagger. It’s not just any dagger, though. The one Littlefinger gives Bran is catspaw, the valyrian steel dagger the cutthroat used assassinate him in the first season. Littlefinger thought Bran would be interested in the dagger. Bran seems unphased, so Littlefinger keeps talking to him. This is a mistake.
Bran is inspecting the dagger as Littlefinger speaks to him. Littlefinger begins to say how he feels for Bran, not even beginning to understand how he must feel coming home to chaos. This is where Bran has his mic-drop moment.
“Chaos is a ladder,” Bran interrupts Littlefinger, like a badass.
Littlefinger’s expression completely changes and he leaves the room once Bran gets another visitor. This quote is really important to Littlefinger. One of the first things Bran asks Littlefinger about the dagger was, “Do you know who it belonged to?” Littlefinger lies and says no. The dagger belonged to Littlefinger. Bran knows the truth, which is why he drops that specific line on Littlefinger.
The full quote is from Game of Thrones Season 3 episode 6. It’s from the scene where Varys walks in on Littlefinger admiring the Iron Throne. Littlefinger is angry Varys thwarted his plans to marry Sansa to the Tyrells. Littlefinger recites the following monologue:
“Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some, are given a chance to climb. They refuse, they cling to the realm or the gods or love. Illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.”
If that wasn’t Bran signing Littlefinger’s death sentence, we’re not sure what could kill him. Bran has no interest in revenge at this point; he’s the Three-Eyed Raven now and sees the bigger picture. No, Bran will destroy Littlefinger or let him be killed when the time is right, which most likely be if interferes with Jon’s plans to kill the Night’s King. All Bran needs to do is tell Jon the truth and it will be the end of Littlefinger. Best guess is Arya will take catspaw and slice Littlefinger’s throat right open.
