Apple's latest iOS GarageBand app update brings 3D touch to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Apple also launched a new music-making app called Music Memos which complements the GarageBand upgrade. GarageBand 2.1 comes with a redesigned interface built to enhance user experience on the iPad Pro.
“GarageBand is the most popular music creation app in the world, and this update helps everyone easily tap into their musical talent with the powerful new Live Loops and Drummer features, and adds support for the larger iPad Pro screen and 3D Touch on iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
Singer-Songwriter Ryan Adams explained that Music Memos is a combination of Apple's Voice Memos and Notes apps designed to document song ideas on-the-go. “ It quite literally blew my mind how Music Memos could transform a single guitar idea into a whole composition with a virtual drummer loose enough that it felt like you were having your mind read by some A.I. musician and a choice of stand-up or electric bass accompaniments ,” he exclaimed in Apple’s press release .
T-Pain is also excited about Apple’s newest addition to its music-making app collection. He said he even recorded his first album using GarageBand software. According to the “Buy U A Drank” singer, his favorite feature is Live Loops. “It’ll change the way an entire generation makes music,” T-Pain added. Create music by tapping cells and columns in a visual grid triggering looped samples and instruments. Arrange and remix sounds live as GarageBand seamlessly keeps all beats in time and on pitch.
Record musical instruments in high quality, uncompressed formats in an organized library sorted by tags and personal ratings with Music Memos. The app records as soon as it hears an instrument which means it will never miss a beat, literally. It can even builds measures displaying chords used in the recording. “The app can analyze rhythm and chords of acoustic guitar and piano recordings, and instantly add drums and a bass line to provide a virtual, customizable backing band that plays along to match the feel of your song,” Apple’s announcement press release stated.
T-pain continues to use the program today. “To see it in a mobile version, something we can carry around and take around, that’s been the best part of GarageBand so far for me,” T-pain said in a demo video shared by The Verge .
The portability aspect is what Apple is clearly going for with this duo release. Music Memos paired with the GarageBand 2.1 Live Loops feature enhanced with iPhone 6s 3D touch keeps everyone happy. See how T-Pain uses GarageBand in The Verge’s demo video below.
