A new Ghostbusters game hit PlayStation VR this week, without any major announcements or fanfare from Sony, but the episodic series (called Ghostbusters: Now Hiring ) sounds like it may disappoint all but the most diehard of Ghostbusters fans.
Like the 2009 Ghostbusters game, developed by Terminal Reality and published by Atari, Now Hiring casts players as the team’s newest member. There’s no time for an initiation, or any sort of simulated training, because Slimer has escaped the Ghostbusters’ iconic firehouse HQ. But that’s as much of the team’s latest adventure as we get to see this week because only the first segment of Ghostbusters: Now Hiring, called Act 1: Firehouse, is available for the PSVR. And that portion of the game only takes about 10 minutes to complete.
According to franchise co-creator Ivan Reitman, who recently spoke with io9 about the future of the Ghostbusters franchise, the team behind Now Hiring has scripted a brand new story for the VR adventure that takes full advantage of the medium. Reitman also told io9 that Sony would continue to support the new Ghostbusters game “as long as we can figure out ways to change it up and as long as people are interested.”
For a brief look at Ghostbusters: Now Hiring, take a few seconds to watch the incredibly short trailer published on Wednesday. Then head down to the comments and let us know if you’re planning to buy Ghostbusters: Now Hiring or waiting to see if new episodes are longer than Act 1.
Ghostbusters: Now Hiring is currently available on PlayStation VR. There’s no word on when fans can expect to see anything after Act 1: Firehouse .
