Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Release Date Set for October 18 on Consoles and PC

Publisher and developer Illfonic confirmed that its asymmetrical multiplayer game Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed has secured a release date of October 18 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store. The game features four-versus-one modes much like Illfonic’s other titles and will launch with pre-order bonuses. Pre-orders are now available across retailers and digital storefronts. Like Illfonic’s other asymmetrical multiplayer games, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed features four players versus one in a test of skill and patience, much like Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds. However, in comparison to the first two, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will have a lighter, more humorous tone in-line with the Ghostbusters franchise.

Pre-order bonuses for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed contain several goodies, including advance access to several gears in the game like the Slimer and Custom Particle Thrower & Proton Pack. Several special clothing colorways are also included for players who will purchase the game early, both digitally and through retail.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed pits three players who will ultimately play as Ghostbusters versus one, who is the Ghost, as the former tries to track down the latter in several haunted locales. Ghostbusters can use several gadgets from the movies to hunt down these pesky Ghosts, such as P.K.E meters and Particle Throwers. The goal of Ghostbusters is to capture the Ghost through various means by working together as a team.

On the other end of the haunted spectrum, the Ghost works alone, roaming haunted stages like the Museum, an abandoned Prison, and other spooky locations. Ghosts can scare civilians away and possess objects to increase their Global Haunt percentage. Global Haunt allows Ghosts to regain ghost power or just cause mass hysteria. Ultimately, a Ghost’s goal is to escape the clutches of the Ghostbusters through their spectral powers.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will also feature different cosmetics for your Ghostbusters and Ghosts, although it’s still uncertain how these will be implemented and/or monetized.
