This week is going to be good. By now, you should know that Sony will be holding its showcase event in several days. PlayStation Showcase will go live on September 9 to feature games from both PS Studios and third-party developers. You can read our previous article for more information.
The Rumor
While the games to be shown at the event have not been announced, we can make some guesses. According to a well-known leaker Shpeshal Nick/Ed, the upcoming God of War will be making an appearance. He didn’t say if it will be just a trailer or something more. I guess we will have to wait and see.
About the Game
God of War Ragnarok, or whatever they end up calling it, is one of the most anticipated games. The sequel was supposed to release during Q4 2021, but Santa Monica Studios decided to delay it to next year, citing that they need more time for development. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic didn’t help either.
We only know that Ragnarok will launch in 2022. When exactly? That's what we don’t know yet. Whenever the game launches, it will have some major boots to fill. Its predecessor, God of War (2018), is known as one of the best PS-exclusive games of the last generation. The game won several GOTY awards, defeating other behemoth titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, Spider-Man (2018), and Forza Horizon 4.
God of War Ragnarok is also a cross-gen platform game, just like Horizon Forbidden West. So, that should be released on both PS4 and PS5. As long as they release it on PC later, I am happy.
Other Leaks
Even if GOW isn’t shown, you can still expect other major announcements and reveals. VG editor Andy Robinson tweeted that the event will have some “super announcements,” which are not known yet. If I have to guess, then I will say that you should expect The Last of Us Factions and previously rumored Bloodborne Remastered.
