It’s been quite some time since Google’s latest content news drop for its Stadia service. Of course, with no end to the COVID-19 epidemic in sight in the near future, and all major gaming conventions on hold for the next few weeks, or even months, it’s time for the online streamed Direct-style presentations to shine. This might also be the time for Google to try and capitalize on what could possibly the future of their service, as the next Stadia Connect is announced for Tuesday, April 28. Check out Google’s corresponding tweet below.
This Stadia Connect presentation is scheduled for 12:00 PM EST, and will air directly on Stadia’s YouTube channel. The tweet announcement was also accompanied by a short trailer, which seemed to showcase some new titles coming for the Stadia service. The most notable of this is Doom Eternal, of course, which was originally set to debut for the service way back in November of last year. Following the delay of the game, Stadia admittedly lost one of its biggest draws, that being a major AAA release in their initial lineup. Doom Eternal’s inclusion in Stadia’s future lineup may just be the big boost it needs following a less than stellar launch last year.
Besides Doom Eternal, the tweet also teased a few new games coming to Stadia, and thus we can expect some first-time announcements from this Connect presentation. It will be interesting to see if the presentation will shed some news on its original IP arm, Stadia Games and Entertainment. A month ago, it was announced that Yumi Yang, a veteran of PlayStation for 19 years, will be the new head of studio. Yang’s last project with PlayStation was as project manager for 2018’s God of War, which is certainly no lean feat in the industry. It remains to be seen if this veteran leadership can push Stadia to the forefront of gaming, especially as the industry continually evolves through cloud-based means.
