Nvidia is now rolling out lower-end GPUs into the market to counter the ongoing severe GPU shortage. One of the models coming back to shelves is the popular entry-level GTX 1050 Ti, one of the best budget cards launched way back in 2016.
Despite making older models available for sale, the ongoing GPU shortage still means that the demand is high and so are the prices. For a GPU that debuted at $140 five years ago, you’d expect it to be available for much less - but if you did, you’d be sorely disappointed. Right now, you can get the GTX 1050 Ti from third-party sellers like Amazon and Newegg, yet for outlandish prices ranging from $190 to nearly $800.
Global demand for performance GPUs has skyrocketed over the past few years thanks in no small part to the cryptocurrency mining craze that’s only getting bigger and bigger. With the high demand for GPUs, the world is experiencing a global shortage that’s leaving chipmakers like Nvidia to re-releasing older cards just to cope with the needs of their market.
The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti isn’t the only aging GPU that’s getting renewed attention. An article reported that the tech giant also made the 20-series RTX 2060 available too. With GPU prices at an all-time high, especially the latest and greatest RTX 30 series, the move to bring back lower-end cards could help alleviate the crippling GPU demand that caused the shortage in the first place.
