Fans of Gran Turismo 7 and the sequel to God of War can rejoice now since these titles will not be exclusive to PS5. Meaning, both games will be playable on PS4.
Herman Hulst, head of Playstation Studios, said in an interview that there are a couple of reasons why some games are not exclusive to the company’s next-gen console.
One of those reasons is that despite the PS4 being seven years old at this point, it is still pretty much on their game development track moving forward. He also said that they cannot just walk away from the 110 million PS4 users as that is just “bad for business.”
He also wants to give players the freedom to choose which platform they want to play the game on.
“Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 - for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 - we’ll continue looking at that. And if PS4 owners want to play that game, then they can. If they want to go on and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them,” said Hulst.
This is great news considering the ongoing global shortage of PS5 on the market, and it will likely not get resolved until next year.
Why God of War is Delayed
Although it was originally announced as a PS5-exclusive, it would appear that the sequel to God of War (rumored to be God of War: Ragnarok) will release sometime in 2022.
Santa Monica Studios, Sony's first-party studio, tweeted that they wanted to deliver a high-quality game but they will do so in a way that will not compromise the health and safety of everyone in the team.
What About GT7 ?
Gran Turismo 7 will be available for PS4 users as well. The reason why GT7 got delayed was due to Covid-related problems, according to a post.
A Sony representative explained that developer Polyphony Digital has come across some huge challenges as a result of the ongoing pandemic. They added that some critical aspects of game production have been slowed down significantly and, thus the game had to be delayed for a 2022 release.
It is interesting to know that the folks over at PlayStation Studios really care about their fans. Making such huge titles available even on the PS4 is a move that will hopefully be emulated by other companies as well.
What do you think about the delay? Are you ok with it?
