From what we've learned so far, Gran Turismo Sport promises to be a platform that will elevate GT Academy like never before – Gran Turismo Sport will even issue a digital FIA racing license for FIA-sanctioned online race series on the sim racer. Due to the GT Academy's focus on circuit racing, it came as a little surprise that Gran Turismo Sport will offer off-road rally race events as well.
Game developer Polyphony made a splash at Gamescom 2016, complete with rigs featuring a Gran Turismo Sport demo game for attendees to play. But instead of famous Grand Prix circuits like Nürburgring, Silverstone or Spa-Francorchamps, the demo featured the Fishermans Ranch rally stage.
The video of the demo, courtesy of DualShockers, shows us a rally course that's stylistically consistent with the Gran Turismo rally stages of the past. What's more, GTPlanet also made the interesting observation that the rally stage design in Gran Turismo is closer to a Global Rallycross layout than the narrower stages that the WRC series runs in Europe. The wider track is not only more forgiving for novice rally drivers (myself included), but it also leaves drivers open to different racing lines for overtakes.
