Polyphony Digital has always delivered visually stunning graphics in its Gran Turismo franchise. However, pretty graphics and a smart physics engine only goes so far. A racing sim only feels real when every parameter of the game is executed well and, unfortunately, the audio quality of the engine note and environment has always been Gran Turismo's Achilles' heel. Engines simply have a tiresome droning noise and little audio distinction from one vehicle to the next. What's more, collisions and impacts sound like two plastic jugs banging against one another.
Creator Kazunori Yamauchi recently revealed that the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport will feature new audio for the PlayStation 4 title.
"So the system is completely new," said Kazunori during the London Gran Turismo Sport event, via GTPlanet. "But the sound material is not completely changed to the new material. So I think when you listen to some of the cars now, there are some cars that sound really good, and some cars that don’t.”
It's a start. According to GTPlanet, one of the cars that will receive the reworked audio is the Lotus Evora, which will reportedly be featured in an upcoming teaser. Stay tuned as we hope to see more
