GreedFall, the fantasy role-playing game from developer Spiders, has just received its release date. The magical-medieval combo title will launch on September 10, as announced by Spiders and French publisher Focus Home Interactive.
GreedFall is a role-playing game set in a magical world with 17th century aesthetics. Players are immersed in the disease-stricken port city of Serene and are tasked with finding a cure for the destitute and hopeless people. To find the cure, players will sail towards the mysterious island of Teer Fradee, but will be stuck in a deadly conflict between the island’s inhabitants and other adventurers who may or may not have bad intentions for the island and its natives. As an RPG, it is up to you and the choices you make to shape your storyline and dictate what your playthrough’s ending will look like.
It’s been almost a month since we’ve reported on its cinematic story trailer shown at E3 2019 and a little less than two weeks since we’ve seen a new trailer focusing on its main setting in the port city of Serene. Still, it seems that Spiders is trying to hold the hype for too long by not releasing another gameplay trailer. It’s still a few months until launch date, so let’s hope the developers release another teaser sooner rather than later.
Let’s be honest, GreedFall's release date is a bit “intimidating”, so to speak, what with AAA caliber titles also launching such as the pioneer of FPS loot and shoot games Borderlands 3 and EA backed sports simulation video game NHL 20. Fans have a lot to be hopeful for though, as Spiders as a studio is as talented as they come. Its previous title The Technomancer, which did leave a lot to be desired, had all the makings of a AAA game if it had funding similar to its counterparts from big name publishing studios. If Focus Home Interactive’s recent financial success is any indicator, it’s not out of the question if we see a sleeper hit in GreedFall.
GreedFall will release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 10. Pre-orders are also available through its Steam page and early buyers will receive the exclusive “Adventurer’s Gear DLC pack,” which includes unique weapons and an Explorer’s Outfit set.
