The developer behind the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) Trilogy was removed from the credits screen following Rockstar Games' implementation of various fixes.
Grove Street Games CEO Thomas Williamson slammed Rockstar Games' decision and called it a "d**k move" by the major company. The GTA Trilogy collection was released in 2021 and it received widespread criticism from fans for a variety of issues.
GTA Trilogy Collection
The collection includes GTA III, San Andreas, and Vice City, which were full of bugs when they first came out. Many of the franchise's fans did not consider it something that lived up to the "definitive edition" part of its name.
But this week saw the release of a sudden update that implemented significant changes to the games included in the collection. These featured tons of bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and graphical upgrades.
The latter also involved a "Classic Lighting Mode" that made the game feel and look a lot more like the original games that were released. The changes made the collection a much better deal compared to before, according to Games Radar.
There were also some people who noticed that Grove Street Games' name had mysteriously vanished from the collection's splash screen. This is something that Williamson immediately spoke out about when he learned about it.
He said that it was a "d**k move" to remove the names of a game's primary developers from its credits following an update. This is especially true when the patch includes hundreds of fixes that those same developers provided but did not reach players for years.
Hundreds of Fixes
Many fans also commented on Williamson's original post, noting that Grove Street Games was not entirely removed from the credits of the GTA Trilogy collection.
They also said that the developers were still credited in the final credits but not in the initial splash screen, Insider Gaming said.
The latest update to the GTA Trilogy collection included classic weather effects being added to the PC version. This was something that was originally introduced in the mobile version of the games collection in 2023.
The situation also comes as the latest entry in the game is still set to be officially confirmed as fans are hyping out GTA VI. This has made fans of the franchise a bit more focused on anything that relates to the series as a whole, according to PCGamesN.
Another thing to note is that Grove Street Games appeared to have unfollowed Rockstar Games on X. This suggested that the team behind the GTA Trilogy collection is not in the best of relationships with the publisher.
