Shout-out to cinematic master and future Death Stranding star Guillermo del Toro for keeping the real meaning of Christmas alive with a battle cry that all gamers can relate to: Fuck Konami. #relatable
This is an echo of an earlier sentiment from Guillermo del Toro that can be summed up as: Fuck Konami.
Del Toro joked that Konami was part of his bad luck with the games industry during an interview with Shack News back in 2015.
“I have proven to be the albatross of video games,” Del Toro said. “I joined THQ, and THQ goes broke. I join Kojima, and Kojima leaves Konami. I have decided, in order not to destroy anyone else’s life, I have decided I will never again get involved in video games. Otherwise, I’ll join someone and his house will explode, or something."
But in fact del Toro has squadded up with Mads Mikkelsen, Norman Reedus and Hideo Kojima for one of gaming’s most anticipated releases, the cryptic Death Stranding.
“Genre is action and it’s an open world with a degree of freedom and you can enjoy the story at the same time. And there are online elements,” Kojima wrote on Twitter back in June, among other details. “For Death Stranding we plan to accommodate 4K and HDR so you can enjoy vivid and real images.”
A real squad stands together. Kojima might not be able to say “Fuck Konami,” but del Toro is willing to say it as many times as needed in support of his friend. #TeamKojima #TeamDelToro #TeamDeathStranding
Konami allegedly mistreated Kojima, is going mobile-only and is biding its time til future disappointments, but Kojima is thriving anyway. It’s good to see that one of gaming’s strangest and brightest lights stays strong this holiday season with friends by his side.
