PlayStation 4 owners are finally getting access to Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, albeit temporarily, thanks to a newly-announced (and quickly approaching) technical beta. That access will only last three days. But for most gamers, that’s plenty of time to determine whether or not Gwent will soak up much free time when the game launches on PC and consoles later this year.
According to CD Projekt Red, the upcoming beta is meant to test Gwent’ s performance during periods of heavy traffic. The studio says glitches and other technical hiccups “are possible” but it should be mostly smooth sailing. Best of all, PS4 owners don’t need an active PlayStation Plus subscription to participate in the beta. Gwent: The Witcher Card Game PS4 tech test begins at 1 p.m. (EST) this Friday (March 31) and continues through the end of the weekend. The servers will be brought offline at 2 a.m. on Monday, but that still gives fans more than 60 hours to squeeze in a few games of Gwent .
The technical beta will available in Europe, as well as North and South America, but anyone Witcher/Gwent fans who live outside of those regions will have to wait for the game’s global launch. Or at least a pre-launch testing phase that’s available in their neck of the woods. CD Projekt Red says real-money purchases won’t be enabled during the technical test but there’s no word on whether or not in-game currency can be collected/spent during the test. The only other big piece of news out of today’s announcement is confirmation that players will need at least 3 GB of free space on their PS4 to take part in the upcoming Gwent beta.
