H1Z1 will be testing a new King of the Kill mode in the upcoming weeks. Daybreak Game Company teased the upcoming game mode during a Twitch live stream featuring streamers Ducksauce and CDNThe3rd.

The live stream featured a short introduction from Garrett Fern, H1Z1 combat designer, explaining the new game mode. The King of the Kill mode is a twist on the Battle Royale mode where players have to fight each other in one-on-one or group fights until there’s a last man standing. H1Z1 players will now have a limited time to loot and make their way to a safe zone or face the explosive consequences.

“This game mode is a little bit different,” Fern said in the Twitch video . “Players are fit with an explosive collar that will explode if they don’t make it to one of several safe zones in a limited time frame. Now these safe zones are static or shrinking like the gas in BR. Instead, they move every wave, so this forces players to be constant motion, moving from ring to ring and encountering players along the way. This makes for some incredibly compelling and adrenaline-filled gameplay. Players who don’t make it to the safe zone in time are out of luck.”

Daybreak Game Company has yet to confirm when the new game mode will go live on test servers, but did say it would be available in “a couple of weeks.” Fern also asked players to keep in mind there will be placeholder art and will be tweaking gameplay balance as they get more feedback.
