Virtual pop star Hatsune Miku (she’s big in Japan!) is making her way overseas, but her previously announced North American tour has added something special to the line-up. The Vocaloid superstar will be touring with Anamanaguchi , a chiptunes band with a definite rock star bent.
Chiptunes is synthesized electronic music made to sound like vintage sound chips. Watch Anamanaguchi in action in their “Endless Fantasy” music video below :
Hatsune Miku’s tour starts off in Seattle on April 23 and ends in New York City May 28. Along the way, Hatsune Miku will be visiting San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Toronto and Chicago.
Not unknown in America thanks to appearances on David Letterman and in Lady Gaga’s 2014 Artpop tour, Hatsune Miku was also featured as DLC in Persona 4: Dancing All Night .
Vocaloid, a voice synthesizer program, is the piece of music software used to create Hatsune Miku, an app for that program. That app took on a life of its own thanks to voice actor Saki Fujita and an enduring, cutesy anime image. The face and form of Hatsune Miku has been plastered on everything it can be plastered on, from race cars to figurines to the Akatuki Venus space probe launched by Japan in 2010. ( Wow .)
Coming up next for Hatsune Miku is the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva X game in March. This rhythm-based game marks the virtual pop star’s 11th venture into video games since the release of 2009’s original Hatsune Miku: Project Diva .
Also notable is a recent collaboration between iDoll and Nendoroid to bring a tiny singing, dancing Hatsune Miku figurine to fruition. You can view the prototype “communications robot” from the Winter Wonder Festival 2016 event below:
