After seven pulse pounding Hearthstone games, HotMeowth from Nevada beats Tarei to become the winner of the American Hearthstone Grand Finals. Climbing his way through hundreds of players in the open bracket, HotMeowth will be attending Blizzcon for the Hearthstone World Championship.
The games were very quick but precise, showing how skilled both players were. Tarei used a few strange decks, mainly his C’thun Control Warrior and his Hunter with Princess Huhuran . HotMeowth is a Hunter expert, and actually lost the Hunter mirror match to Tarei. HotMeowth lost two games, but managed to win the next two games with Aggro Shaman and Zoo Warlock.
Game seven is where things really got interesting. It was a Yogg-Saron Druid mirror matchup, where the game literally came down to who lucked out the best. I’ve written about my problem with Yogg-Saron before and this game highlighted all my complaints.
Tarei’s Yogg didn’t really push his advantage – he managed to get a few Mage secrets and got a Vanish, which removed a few big threats. Still, HotMeowth’s Yogg was just a tiny bit better, drawing a ton of cards off of Flare and Solemn Vigil.
In the end it came down to luck, which HotMeowth had more of. That isn’t taking anything away from his accomplishment though – I truly believe he will represent America well in the Hearthstone World Championship at Blizzcon in November.
