Summer may be here right now, but it looks like Hearthstone wants you to prepare for academic life as it revealed that its upcoming expansion is all about the Scholomance Academy. The expansion is going to introduce dual class cards and a new keyword. Set to be released in early August, this latest expansion also marks the start of the second phase of the Year of the Phoenix.
If you’re wondering, the fabled Scholomance Academy is run by Headmaster Kel’Thuzad, along with the rest of the faculty. They help guide the next generation of greats. These include Warlocks, Warriors, and everything in between.
Hearthstone is also going to slowly reveal some of the new cards, with the first card reveal scheduled to be on July 22. Here’s an overview of the schedule and the number of cards to be revealed:
- July 22: 5 cards
- July 23: 5 cards
- July 24: 8 cards
- July 25: 2 cards
- July 26: 2 cards
- July 27: 7 cards
- July 28: 8 cards
- July 29: 5 cards
This magic college is well-known for giving its pupils a varied magical education that goes across multiple mystical disciplines. One of these is Dual-Class cards, which lets players unlock a wide range of gameplay possibilities. Of the 135 cards to be released with the new expansion, 40 of them are going to be Dual-Class cards. There are going to be 10 class combinations, which are:
- Druid/Hunter
- Hunter/Demon Hunter
- Demon Hunter/Warlock
- Warlock/Priest
- Priest/Paladin
- Paladin/Warrior
- Warrior/Rogue
- Rogue/Mage
- Mage/Shaman
- Shaman/Druid
The new expansion is also going to introduce a new keyword, which is Spellburst. The keyword offers a one-time only effect when a player casts a spell. For example, the Wretched Tutor has the Spellburst effect of dealing 2 damage to all other minions. Diligent Notetaker, meanwhile, has the effect of returning the spell to a player’s hand. These are just some of the cards that are sure to change how the game is played.
There’s also going to be new spells known as Studies. These allow players to not only Discover a card immediately, but also lower the mana cost of the next card they play of that type.
Pre-purchase of the Scholomance Expansion is already available for $49.99. The bundle comes with 55 Scholomance Academy card packs, a Kel’Thuzad Card Back, and a random Scholomance Academy Golden Legendary.
There is also a Mega Bundle offered for $79.99. It comes with 85 Scholomance Academy card packs with five of them being Golden Scholomance Academt packs. This bundle also has one random Scholomance Academy Golden Legendary card, Kel’Thuzad Mage Hero, and Kel’Thuzad card back. The Mega Bundle also comes with the Tavern Pass that has four Arena Tickets and Battleground Perks that include Discover Four, Hero Early Access, Advanced Stats, and Visual Emotes.
