Looks like Fast 8 will be full of surprises: British actress Helen Mirren confirmed that she will be joining the cast during an interview with Elle. The illustrious Dame discussed her upcoming war movie, Eye in the Sky, when she shared the sort of movies that she enjoys working on:
"I like it to be serious," said Mirren. "Of course, having said that I'm about to do Fast and Furious 8 . But that's for the fun of it. So maybe that's what I want as well, some fun and some relevant, serious, important movies. "
On the discussions that led to her casting in Fast 8, Mirren explained that she had one request:
"Well, yes. I’ve always rather loved driving. I said, ‘I’ll be in [Fast 8], but only if I’m allowed to drive if I do drive in it.’ But we’ll see. We’ll see how it transpires. Film is a wonderful thing and it can be so many different things. I don’t want to turn my back on any of the different ways movies can be. I love the movies. I love going to the films. I like very serious films, I love foreign films, and I love big, fun movies–as long as they’re well made and they’ve got good scripts. That’s the most important thing.”
We certainly hope Mirren will get to drive in Fast 8. On that note, it would be interesting to see what car she'll actually drive. If I had a choice in the matter, a Jaguar coupe would fit Helen Mirren like a fine English leather glove.
And what about Mirren's role in the movie? As a recent Jaguar ad once quoted: "Have you ever noticed how in Hollywood movies, all the villains are played by Brits?"
