Capcom's upcoming survival-horror game, Resident Evil Village, recently released a free demo for fans to try out before jumping into the full game on May 7. However, there is a catch to this demo, which is being time-bound. Meaning, the demo locks the player out of the game after they have spent one hour playing it. It isn't exactly clear as to why Capcom chose to time bind their demo. But it seems that the developer might have done it to prevent players from exploring the map and finding out secrets and possibly spoiler content.
Nonetheless, since the demo is available on PC, some geeks have figured out a way to bypass the one-hour lock. In previous Resident Evil games, Capcom had only released the demo for 24 hours, though after a series of complaints regarding the lack of playtime, the company decided to extend Resident Evil Village's demo until May 9.
So, if you're on PC and interested in unlocking the time limiter on the demo, here are the following steps you'll need to take:
- Disable Steam Cloud for Resident Evil Village demo
- Download the Steam Achievement Manager
- Delete Local Save Files (Located: Steamuserdata
1541780remotewin64_save - Launch the Steam Achievement Manager
- Choose Resident Evil Village demo
- Remove the Achievement and Stats
- Click confirm, and you're good to go
It's interesting to see that Capcom chose to put restrictions on the PC version knowing that users may somehow figure out a workaround to remove the limiter. Even I played the demo and really enjoyed it, but what I didn't really enjoy is pausing the demo and checking the remaining time.
Speaking of the demo itself, it was eerie and interesting, to say the least. The graphics were phenomenal, especially the village section that had a horrifying vibe of its own. If you haven't tried the demo yet, it's up on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S for a few more days, so you might want to give it a shot.
Resident Evil Village is releasing on May 7 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
